With the school year upon us and parents dropping off their children, it is important to note that no parent should park in any fire department parking spaces or park along the fire zone at fire headquarters. In the past, parents dropping off or picking up their children at FAMS have parked in parking spaces for emergency services only or have blocked the fire zone completely. The Franklin Lakes Fire Department is 100% volunteer. The fire houses are not staffed and members respond in their personal vehicles from home to a call. During an emergency call the firefighters responding to fire headquarters should not have to worry about parking at the fire house. In the event of an emergency time is of the essence. Fire lanes and parking spaces must be clear for a timely response for firefighters. These areas and spaces are clearly marked with yellow lines and no parking signs. This includes the 3 parking spaces to the right of the bus stop with the sign stating “Parking for Fire Personnel Only”, the parking lot in the rear of fire headquarters, and finally the spaces in between the commuter lot and the FLVAC with a sign stating “Parking for Emergency Personnel Only”.
In the event a vehicle is found blocking fire dept parking, or the fire lane, Franklin Lakes Police will be notified and the appropriate actions will be taken. Help us help you by allowing us to respond in a timely manner. It could be you or your loved one we are going to help.
