This past Monday and Tuesday The Franklin Lakes Fire Department along with The Oakland Fire Department, The Wyckoff Fire Department, and The Wallington Fire Department Dive Team participated in water rescue drills. With recreational boating and boat rentals now being held at the reservoir it was critical to address the possibility of a water rescue situation at The Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve. Monday night was a class room exercise where plans and tactics were discussed on how to implement a rescue at the nature preserve and the function of the dive team was addressed by the Wallington Fire Department Dive Team.
On Tuesday and practical exercise was performed with all mutual aid towns getting on the water and deploying the dive team. All of the agencies were shown the various paths and water ways of The Nature Preserve along with potential hazards that could occur during a water rescue. Great work to everyone coming out and drilling and excellent job to Captain Jay Donch for taking the lead on the drills.
