This Monday night at drill crews were out around town replacing missing or damage hydrant stakes. Hydrant stakes are the reflective flag that is attached to the hydrant to make the hydrant visible from a distance, or if brush and snow cover the hydrant. With the winter months approaching quickly the Franklin Lakes fire department would like to remind home owners to clear snow, ice, or debris 5 feet around the hydrant. This is a borough ordinance, during a true emergency time is critical and crews cannot be delayed due to an obstructed fire hydrant. If you have a contractor that services your property please instruct them to clear around the hydrant. Finally if you have a fire hydrant on your property, or if you see one driving around town without a hydrant stake or a damaged hydrant stake please advise the fire department of the location (street address) so we can service the hydrant.
