This past Thursday morning communications dispatched The Fire Department to respond to the Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve for a deer trapped on the ice. Fire fighters arrived on location and found a deer about 100 yards off shore trapped with a broken leg. Fire fighters utilized the ice rescue sled to reach the deer and bring it back to shore. However the deer did not survive the ordeal once brought to shore. With the winter weather coming and ice freezing over on the many lakes and ponds in Franklin Lakes, The Fire Department reminds all members of the public to stay off frozen bodies of water. You never know how thick the ice is and a tragic event could occur if people are not careful. Great work to the crews operating on scene.
