Tuesday turned out to be a busy day for the volunteers, starting at 1631 hours communications dispatched one engine to responded mutual aid to Mahwah to stand by Fire Company 4. The brothers in Mahwah were battling a multi alarm condo fire and requested their fire houses to be back filled. Engine 334 (OIC FF Comitto) with 6 responded. While the fire stand by was taking place, communications dispatched the fire department at 1803 hours to a private dwelling on Colonial Road for the smell of smoke in the home with a smoke condition. Chief Dodd (330), Asst Chief Bohny (340), Ladder 342 (OIC FF Devenney), Engine 334 (OIC FF Comitto), Engine 331 (OIC FF Steestra), and Oakland Engine 1031 responded. Crews arrived and determined there was an issue with a new oven, crews isolated the problem and performed ventilation before clearing. On the way back to to covering Mahwah,Engine 334 discovered a head on collision at the intersection of Franklin Ave and Colonial Road. While the Engine assessed the situation Asst Chief Bohny called the MVA in. Ladder 342 and Res3cue responded to the scene. Crews utilized their first responder skills assessing patients in both cars while securing the scene until BLS and ALS arrived. The patients were transported to the hospital via FLVAC and Valley Ambulance. Crews cleared within 40 minutes of the crash. Engine 334 went back to Mahwah to stand by and stayed for coverage untill 2200 hours.
