04.14.14 Monday Night Drill
Property owners gave the fire department permission to perform training on their house scheduled for demolition. This live exercise is valuable because it provides real world practice and immediate feedback of our fire response procedures, forcible entry, search and rescue and fire suppression operations.
The simulation was a basement fire with confirmed entrapment. A smoke machine completely filled the basement resulting in zero visibility.
The family was able to watch us rescue the simulated victim through the smoke and darkness by looking through a thermal imaging camera. We were very proud to conduct our training and have the family watch us do our job.
Without neighbors helping neighbors this type of training would not be possible. The Franklin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department would thank this special family for their support.
Tanker 341, Engine 331, Engine 335, Ladder 342, Rescue 333 and Tanker 341 responded to the scene.
